Atlanta Hydrangeas

Here are some of the hydrangea I saw at the Atlanta History Center's historic gardens.

Winterrod

A vibernum, from the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Evergreen Wisteria

This is not from my garden, a vine found throughout the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Do you think it will grow in the Northeast?

Nasturtium

Potted nasturtium in terracotta hues.

More Hardy Geraniums

Pink, instead of blue like Splish Splash.

Blue Himalayan Poppy

These are much smaller than the poppies you generally see, but the blue is so amazing, that stand out much bigger than their size.

Hardy geranium Splish Splash. These really are hardy.Even when the are buried by other plants, these usual low-growing flowers will climb to the light to bloom.

Calla lillies...these look familiar, like the tattoos on my beloved's calves.

Sunday, June 11, 2006

This is the rose bush that was the first to bloom. I swear I didn't drip dark pink paint on the light pink blossoms, that is just the way they look.

Tiffany Rose

This rose is a beautiful as the girl that shares her name :)

Brise d'Anjou

This is a beautiful, variegated version of Jacob's Ladder--Brise d'Anjou.

Fleur de Lis

Another of my beloved Batik Iris...this one looks like a fleur de lis.

Red Rose

My roses have started to bloom. I will post pictures of all of them eventually, but this is a rose that was already here when we bought the house. I looks like an archetype, red, climbing rose.

Iris Corner

Irises, alliums, and and more in the corner of the front garden.

After the Storm

How apropos: After the Storm irises after the storm. You can even see the raindrops on the petals.

More Baboon Bottom Irises

I have been talking about them in this blog so much that it is about time they bloomed in my garden. I waited for the rain to stop for just a moment to stap these pictures.

Blue Windflowers

These have been up for a while, in bunches of blues and white, as windflowers are early spring bloomers. I had some up earlier (I think they were my first blooms of the year) that were pink, white, and yellow.

Yellow Sun Scabiosa

I'll post more images of this one as it matures, but I couldn't resist including this first little blossom. I love the green and soft yellow of this variety of one of my Beloved's favorite flowers. I'm excited for the pink variety, Pink Mist, to bloom next to it, as I love to see soft pink and yellow flowers together.

Edelweiss

Go ahead, you know you want to sing it! If you don't know any of the lyrics beyond "edelweiss. edelweiss," and if you would like to enjoy some musical accompaniment, check out this lyric page. Now, I grow edelweiss because I fancy it the flower of my German people, but, in fact, it is grown all over the world, including Asia and North America.

Baboon Bottom

These pictures are included for MeganPhlox. As she points out, the Baboon Bottom Iris looks nothing like its namesake; she thinks it really deserves a prettier name. I personally think such a naughty name as Baboon Bottom is delightful, and love the expressions exhibited upon hearing it for the first time.

Breakers Iris

Breakers is a Tall Bearded-type iris (my favorite type, btw).

Alliums

I love my alliums. Related to onions, they flower in many colors, including purples, pinks, blues, whites, and greens.

Chives in the Herb Garden

Chives in the herb and strawberries garden. From this point forward, they will make me think of breakfast at Lynda's...The Inn at Sweet Water Farm.

Batik Iris

This is the iris that made me fall in love with irises, the Batik Iris. True to form, it took a full season after being moved from my old home to bloom, but here is, the first blooming of the Batik Iris, or any that I moved, at my new home and garden. If you love Batik, check out Baboon Bottom, same kind of pattern, called zebra, but pink instead of the bluish-purple.

First Bloom: Claire de Lune

The first bloom of my new Claire de Lune Clematis. I bought this about a month ago at Northeast Nurseries and it is already in bloom!

Purple Corner

Wild Phlox, alliums, and irises at the corner of the house.
